In Turkey, the AKP government’s increasingly ongoing operations of political genocide have tonight targeted the deputies of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) who were detained as a result of simultaneous house raids in line with the order of Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor. HDP Diyarbakır MP Çağlar Demirel stated the followings regarding the crackdown on the party executives: »These raids and detentions are a coup. The will of the people cannot be suppressed through an abduction and arrest of their elected representatives. We consider this a coup and never accept it. This is the fascistic approach of the state.«
The Lawyer Mehmet Emin Aktar has met HDP Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaş who is held in anti-terror branch of Diyarbakır Police Directorate following his detention during a house raid tonight. Aktar quoted the HDP Co-chair as saying the followings: »I am in good state of health and good morale. I greet my people.«
The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) has released a statement following the detention of Co-chairs and 11 MPs of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP). The statement says: »The coup of the AKP government continues. Detention of co-chairs and deputies of Turkey’s third largest party, which received 6 million votes, is a coup against the will of the people that can never be accepted. It is time for all our people and democracy forces to adopt a stance against this coup. Those who confiscate the people’s will will never triumph. As DBP we call upon our people and all democracy forces to raise voice against fascism.«
Social media networks including Facebook and Twitter have been blocked in Turkey soon after the detention of Co-chairs and deputies of the HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party). Data flow on Whatsapp is also restricted.
