Iraqi Communist PartyThe Political Bureau of the Iraqi Communist Party issued the following statement on 9th July 2017 congratulating the Iraqi people on the great national victory of the liberation of the city of Mosul from terrorist Daesh:

Mosul is now free, with the declaration of Iraq’s victory and defeat of the so-called “Islamic state”. Iraqis are marking a great victory, clearing their land of the plague of Daesh.

During the past three years, our armed forces, together with volunteers in the Popular Mobilization, local fighters and Peshmerga forces, have set the greatest examples of heroism and sacrifice for the cause of liberation of people and land. Mosul has been liberated, and before that Amerli,Tikrit, Baiji, Ramadi, Falluja and other cities were liberated from the terrorists, leaving few areas and towns which require further efforts to liberate them and continue the momentum of victories.

Iraqis have been awaiting this day for three years, and it has now arrived carrying with it hopes for the restoration of stability and security, the return of all displaced people to their homes and the reconstruction of cities and towns affected by heinous acts of Daesh and the military operations against it.
On this military victory, which we along with our people are proud of, all political forces and all effective societal actors are called upon to overcome the difficulties and open up new horizons for Iraq that would transfer it to a situation that is completely different to the one it is now suffering.

Our battle against terrorism has entered a new phase after the defeat of Daesh in Mosul. The biggest task still remains, to drain its sources, which requires integrated approaches: political, social, military, cultural and media.

This great military victory opens up the possibility, if there is the will, credibility and reflection on the lessons of what happened on June 10, 2014, when Mosul was overrun by Daesh, to address the problems of our country, in the forefront of which is the political system based on sectarian and ethnic quota. This requires building a broad national democratic alignment that will transform Iraq from a state of constituents into a state of citizenship and social justice.

We express our appreciation and gratitude to everyone who contributed to this great achievement, and to the heroic fighters of all formations of the Iraqi armed forces. Glory to the martyrs and wishing those who have been injured a speedy recovery.

Victory to our people.
