Comrade Manohar Deshkar, Secretary of the Central Control Commission of the Communist Party of India passed away in the early hours of Wednesday (January 17, 2018) at his residence at Kamptee Cantoment in Nagapur district. He was 85 years old.
Comrade Manohar Deshkar joined the Communist Party as a whole-timer in late fifties and remained secretary of the Nagpur District Council of the CPI for decades. He was elected secretary of the Maharashtra State Council and later a member of the National Council of the Party. During the Puducherry Party Congress he was elected member-secretary of the Central Control Commission.
He attended the last meeting of the National Council at Vijayawada on 8-10, January 2018.
Comrade Deshkar started working among the various segments of the working class and organised trade unions of Municipal workers and working class in the industrial areas in and around Nagpur. He was general secretary of the regional coal mine workers union.
Comrade Manohar Deshkar was elected to the Kamptee Cantonment Board four times and remained its vice president the highest elective post for two consecutive terms.
He lives behind his wife Com. Asha and a son and a daughter.
Com. Shameem Faizee, secretary of the National Council of the CPI in a condolence message said that his death is a big loss for the communist movement, particularly in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. He recalled that comrade Manohar Deshkar was instrumental in drawing him and many more educated youngsters to the party.
