The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement on February 01, 2018 condemning the continuing violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj:

The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India vehemently condemns the continuing communal violence in Kasganj area of Uttar Pradesh despite repeated assurances from the authorities that normalcy would be restored in the area soon.

Even after almost a week, normalcy has not returned in the area. Instead leaders and legislators of ruling BJP are seen spreading communal venom, provoking further attacks on minorities. They are even openly defending the attackers.

The person about whom Sangh Parivar publicized as being killed in the clashes came out publicly saying he is alive. This is how RSS, ABVP and other affiliates are spreading fake news to whip up communal clashes.

Clashes in Kasganj erupted on January 26, 2018, after a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ taken out by activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to mark Republic Day tried to march through a Muslim locality raising provocative anti-minority slogans. Muslims themselves were holding a Republic day function. It is being now alleged despite repeated advance warnings from the local people on the possibility of communal clashes and violence, the authorities failed to take any preventive action.

The party feels that though every Indian has a right to celebrate the Republic Day, no one has any right to condemn and deny a particular section of people especially from minorities their right to mark the day. It is an insult to democracy itself.

Now reports indicate that the state administration is all bent upon passing on the blame for violence on minority community. Majoriy of those arrested so far are Muslims. CPI demands an impartial enquiry in the whole episode.

The party is also shocked to note that Prime Minister Narendra Modi who represents one of the parliamentary constituencies in the state is yet to respond.
