The World Federation of Trade Unions firmly denounces the fatal work “accidents” that happened recently in the mines of the cities Klos and Bulqiza of Albania and cost the lives of two workers. Over the last six months, six miners have lost their life in these cities where Albania’s chromium mines are located.

The WFTU, on behalf of 92 million workers that it represents in the 5 continents, demands from the competent authorities the implementation of health and safety measures inside the chromium mines. We condemn the fact that the workers are said to be responsible for the accidents. The real culprits for the fatal accidents are the indifference of the authorities for the protection of the workers’ life, as well as the pursuit of the maximum profit through the intensification of their work.

We support the miners and their protests for safety in their workplaces. We convey our sincere condolences to the families and friends of the workers who lost their life.
