The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the terms of the communiqué issued by the Office of the High Representative for the European Union Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini, concerning to the presidential and state legislatures elections successfully held on past May 20th, 2018, in which 68% of the voters placed their trust in President Nicolas Maduro Moros, as a sovereign and courageous act in spite of the systematic threats and unprecedented foreign pressures.
It is worth recalling that the High Representative of the European Union received the invitation by the President of the National Electoral Council, Tibisay Lucena, to participate through an EU Electoral Observation Mission in the electoral process of May 20th, far enough in advance. Nevertheless, by refusing the invitation, the EU opted for believing in induced prejudices and thus, issuing groundless accusations that do not take anything away of the reliability attributed to the Venezuelan elections by the over 300 participants in the International Accompaniment Program of the National Electoral Council, who came from 56 countries, as well as representatives of several international organizations.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela hopes that the European Union keeps the indispensable adherence to International Law, the principle of non interference in the internal affairs and respect for sovereignty and self determination of the peoples, and at the same time, it invites the European countries and institutions to undertake a respectful relation of comprehensive cooperation with Venezuela, the Bolivarian Government and its institutions.
