The Government of the Russian Federation rebuked the “undiplomatic” statements of the Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, regarding the flights of two supersonic strategic bombers Tu-160 to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela from the Eurasian nation.
“It’s very unethical to hear this from the Secretary of State. This is a very serious accusation when he says such words about the authorities of the Russian Federation”, the Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitri Peskov told to the reporters.
The spokesman for the Russian Presidency called Pompeo’s statements “absolutely inappropriate”, pointing out that the United States with half of its defense budget would be able to “feed all of Africa”.
In a message posted on his Twitter account, the US Secretary of State suggested that “the Russians and Venezuelans should see this for what it is: two corrupt governments squandering public funds, and overthrowing freedom while their people suffer”, alluding to the arrival in Venezuela of two strategic Tupolev Tu-160 bombers, a heavy military transport aircraft Antónov An-124 and an Ilyushin IL-62, a passenger aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Force.
Upon his arrival in the South American country, the Russian crew was received by the People’s Power Minister for Defense, Vladimir Padrino López, along with the Superior General Staff of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (Fanb), on the eve of the combined operational flights between the Russian Federation and the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela 2018.
