Given the recent diplomatic differences that have arisen between Colombia and Venezuela with the denunciation of an alleged attack against President Iván Duque and the persistent attack by the United States, which uses the New Granada government as an agent to aggravate the coercive sanctions against the Homeland of Bolívar, the FM of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, assured that the Venezuelan government is willing to collaborate to establish a prolonged peace between both countries.
Foreign Minister Arreaza emphasized that Venezuela has tried to establish diplomatic communication with his counterpart, Carlos Holmes Trujillo, through calls and sending letters, in order to resolve what concern them without the middleing of external agents who intend to attack Venezuela.
“If diplomacy is exhausted, then where are we going? what’s left is war. But even in armed conflicts there is always a communication channel for surrender or even to negotiate the resolution of a conflict”, said the Foreig Minister.
During an interview with the Colombian radio station, W Radio, Arreaza said that the Venezuelan government has always been willing to arrange the dialogue, contrary to what happens with the government of Iván Duque who, yesterday during the inauguration of the The president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, held a meeting with the Secretary of State of the United States, Mike Pompeo, to continue on his aggression against President Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan people.
In this sense, Arreaza deplored the infamous language that Colombian spokesmen use to refer to the Venezuelan government because, in his opinion, it is not honest to try to distract the public opinion with these attacks against Venezuela, when in the Neo-Granadian nation the violence grows stronger with the murder of social leaders.
The Venezuelan diplomat said that due to the constant mechanisms of aggression, the Venezuelan people and the National Government are in their legitimate right to exercise respect for their sovereignty and non-interference in the internal affairs of the country.
“As Foreign Minister I act within the Constitution, the president of international relations is President Nicolás Maduro and what he has done is to react before the attacks against Venezuela. If yesterday Mike Pompeo and Iván Duque had dedicated themselves to their affairs we would not have to say anything, but if they boast of increasing the pressure towards Venezuela, the reaction of President Maduro is completely normal”, he said.
When referring to the recent inaction of the New Granada government, on the matter of the release of a Colombian citizen who was kidnapped in Colombia and released by the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) in Venezuelan territory, Arreaza assured that the neighboring country categorically refuses to the resolution of conflicts “by not even establishing communication between their Vice-ministers, nor using diplomatic channels”.
Regarding to the restoration of diplomatic relations with Brazil, the Foreign Minister said he was willing to talk with his counterpart, Ernesto Araújo, but at the same time considered that there is no greater expectation, because of the position assumed by Bolsonaro who joined the United States to delegitimize and overthrow the government of President Maduro, based on the thesis of bringing back democracy and human rights to Venezuela.
“Brazil is an important country because it is part of the Brics. We regret that this government arrives with that vision of the world. It will be difficult to interact, both Bolsonaro and Duque are disputing over the attacks against Venezuela”, he said.
Finally, Arreaza said that regardless of the economic blockade of which the Venezuelan people are victims, the Bolivarian Government continues and will continue to bet on the construction of an egalitarian society.
“We have a people’s mandate and a Constitution, President Nicolás Maduro has been re-elected by the majority of the people. Certainly as a country we have problems that any other nation may have, but we are constantly reviewing social policies and in 2018 we took the reins of many processes and, promoting the economic recovery plan, we bet on the construction of a socialist and egalitarian society” He said.
