The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Jorge Arreaza, held an interview with Amy Goodman for the US media “Democracy Now”, where he condemned the coup attempts by the Venezuelan opposition, sponsored by the United States government against President Nicolás Maduro Moros.

In this regard, the Venezuelan diplomat denounced that the not recognition of the inauguration of President Maduro on January 10 by some nations and the Venezuelan opposition, is a plan orchestrated by the United States government.

“This is part of a coup that will not happen, because in Venezuela both, the people and the Bolivarian National Armed Forces, and the democratic institutions, are clearly aligned and subordinated to the constitution”, he explained.

Also, Foreign Minister Arreaza stressed that the purpose of these attacks against the Venezuelan president, is because they want to regain control over the natural wealth of Venezuela, as they had until 1998.

In this way, the Venezuelan Foreign Minister warned that “when you ask any of the United States spokespersons about Venezuela, they say that all options are on the table, including the military option, it means, our country is militarily threatened”.

On the other hand, the Head of the Foreign Ministry pointed out that people like the US Secretary of State, Mike Pence, have openly pressured countries to take an aberrant political position against Venezuela. “We can see this in the Organization of American States (OAS), where in the last vote several Caribbean countries were subject to great economic pressure to ignore the Venezuelan government”.

Finally the Foreign Minister said that “despite the great differences we have, we must seek dialogue, President Nicolás Maduro would like to meet with President Trump, and I am sure that many things would be solved if they are seen directly and heard, thus, understand the need to respect the democracies that are different in Latin America to the United State’s model, hopefully one day the U.S. will respect the democracy of Latin America”.
