The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India issued the following statement on February 23, 2019:
The National Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expresses serious concern at the possibility of evicting 11 lakh families who are living in forest, because of the judgment of Supreme Court. They could not prove their claims for pattas. Poor, marginalized people are unable to prove their hereditary rights. The eviction of about 55 to 60 lakh people will create a huge problem to the nation. Forests should be saved, but most of the forests are getting destroyed by unscrupulous contractors for profits. July 27 date is given by Supreme Court for eviction. Union government should call an all party meeting to discuss and find out an amicable solution.
