The spokeswoman of the Chancellery of the Russian Federation, Maria Zajárova, denounced on Friday that the government of the United States has moved special forces and equipment to the Colombian-Venezuelan border, action that could trigger unprecedented actions in the country.
“The movement of special forces and equipment to a space closer to the territory of Venezuela is observed”, said the government official Vladimir Putin.
She noted that there is data on the possible purchase by “US companies and their allies of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), a large arsenal of weapons and ammunition in one of the countries of Eastern Europe, and then deliver them to the Venezuelan opposition forces”.
Zajárova explained that the weapons that could be acquired are “models and analogues of machine guns, coupled and automatic grenade launchers, portable anti-aircraft defense systems, ammunition for firearms and artillery of various uses”.
The diplomat indicated that there is a “dangerous and large-scale provocation that is scheduled for February 23: the crossing of the border of Venezuela by the so-called humanitarian convoy, incited and directed by Washington”.
She said that this provocation could trigger “a clash of supporters and opponents in Venezuela, and a suitable pretext for a military action is being forged in order to overthrow the current legitimate president of the country, Nicolás Maduro”.
