The head of State and Government, Nicolás Maduro Moros, said that the social outbreak that the Republic of Chile is going through is the result of the exclusionary and repressive model imposed by the neo-liberalism that has been accumulating since the Pinochet dictatorship.
During the closing ceremony of the I International Congress of Communes, Social Movements and Popular Power, which was held at the Theater “Teresa Carreño”, in Caracas, Maduro said that the situation in Chile only demonstrates the protest of a people who have lived in the inequality.
“Below, in the depth of that society is the inequality, misery and accumulated abuse of the years of democracy when the repressive model of -Augusto- Pinochet was maintained (…) The right says that it is Maduro’s fault, it is not Maduro’s fault is fault of the International Monetary Fund and the wild capitalism, an impoverishing and unequal model”, said the president.
After the social outbreak in the city of Santiago, a strong repression by the military forces towards the Chilean people has been unleashed.
The protests emerged once the government of Sebastián Piñera announced the increase in the price of public transportation system tickets at a cost of $ 1.17.
Given the demand of the Chilean people in the streets, Piñera decreed the state of emergency, which meant the deployment of military forces, and a curfew since last Saturday, October 19, renewing this Sunday.
