According to reports, on December 28 a car bomb explosion in a busy street of Somalia’s capital Mogadishu claimed 90 lives, including 17 Somali police officers and 73 civilians.

We resolutely condemn this heinous terrorist attack which caused civilian casualties. Obviously, this deadly attack by extremists, along with the previous ones, aims to destabilise the situation in Somalia.

We express sincere condolences to the victims’ families and loved ones and wish speedy recovery to the wounded.

As a permanent member of the UN Security Council, Russia will continue to support efforts by the Federal Government of Somalia to achieve national reconciliation and to prepare for the 2020−2021 parliamentary and presidential elections.
