In order to heighten the epidemiological surveillance and control measures against the spread of coronavirus in the region, the Presidential Command Post was set up at the Miraflores Presidential Palace in Caracas.

The first meeting was attended by the Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, members of the Bolivarian Armed Forces (FANB), sectorial vice presidents and authorities of the Capital District Government.

The meeting was held pursuant to the instruction given by President Nicolás Maduro, who called for the implementation of permanent monitoring mechanisms in public and private hospitals and healthcare centers throughout the country.

During a press conference with domestic and foreign reporters, the Venezuelan president declared a state of permanent emergency in the country’s health system to prevent and contain coronavirus, and the temporary suspension of flights from Colombia and Europe for a month.

No coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Venezuela so far.

According to figures of the World Health Organization (WHO), 124,847 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in 118 countries.
