In the face of to the U.S. government’s threat against the sovereignty and stability of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Samuel Moncada denounced Donald Trump’s vile strategy to overthrow the legitimate government headed by President Nicolás Maduro amid the COVID-19 pandemic, which has afflicted more than 950,000 people and caused more than 49,000 deaths so far.

“Genocide perpetrators in Washington are using the world’s greatest health tragedy in the last 100 years to overthrow the Government of Venezuela. The world can now see what kind of sick people govern the U.S.,” expressed the Venezuelan diplomat on his Twitter account @SMoncada_VEN.

In August 2019, the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela requested the UN Security Council to take immediate actions in the face of the U.S. government’s imminent pretention of launching a military attack against Venezuela through a naval blockade, which, according to the UN Charter, is an act of war. In March, 2020, the Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Jorge Arreaza reiterated this denunciation before the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Caracas.

“In August 2019, we denounced before the UN Security Council the U.S. government’s criminal plan to impose a naval blockade on Venezuela. This act of war is presented today in the midst of a world tragedy,” recalled Moncada.

The Venezuelan Permanent Representative to the UN asserted that Trump pretends to implement in Venezuela a strategy similar to the one they used against Iraq in 2003, with the difference that they are not fighting against the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction anymore, because today’s imperial excuse is an alleged fight against drug trafficking.

“The drug cartels of the world’s top drug producing country is ganging up with the military cartels of the world’s top drug consuming country to impose a naval blockade against Venezuelan in the midst of a pandemic. What kind of sick people govern these two countries?” he added.

The Venezuelan diplomat stressed that while the countries of the region are facing the greatest health tragedy of the last 100 years, the U.S. government is threatening with the use of military force at a time when the U.S. people are suffering the horror of seeing their hospitals overloaded.

So far, COVID-19 cases have skyrocketed past 220,000, and more than 5,000 people have died in the United States, the country with the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the world.

“Their own military forces are suffering a lethal epidemic on their aircraft carriers, and they decide to threaten with a colonial war that only favor their electoral campaign and arms-dealer sponsors,” stressed Moncada as he referred to the recent news published by U.S. media about a COVID-19 outbreak on an aircraft carrier with more than 4,000 crew members onboard.
