Starting on Sunday, April 19, the Venezuelan Government imposed a curfew on Nueva Esparta state due to the COVID-19 source of infection registered in the municipalities of Gomez and Maneiro, informed Sectorial Vice President of Communication, Culture and Tourism Jorge Rodríguez, who detailed that the mobility restriction measure will be in effect from 8:00 pm Sunday to 10:00 am Monday.
“From tomorrow (Monday) morning, it will be in effect from 4:00 pm until 10:00 am of the following day,” he said at the Miraflores Presidential Palace, in Caracas.
Rodríguez explained that the curfew will be in force until Venezuelan authorities report new potential cases after a baseball academy located in the Pedro Gonzalez sector violated the collective quarantine.
Confinement in Acevedo Municipality
Rodríguez informed about the confinement in the municipality of Acevedo, located in Miranda state, in order to conduct a thorough operation to detect possible sources of infection in the locality.
“In order to comb and visit the Acevedo municipality, we ask all its citizens to cooperate with the work carried out by our authorities starting tonight,” he urged after a meeting held by the Presidential Commission for the Prevention and Control of Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The confinement measure was taken after one baseball player from a baseball academy in Acevedo participated in a party to celebrate he was recruited by a Major League team.
“There’s a high probability of a new source of infection in the Acevedo municipality of Miranda state,” he said.
He called on Venezuelans to respect the collective quarantine, in force since March 17, to contain the propagation of coronavirus.
“It is a treacherous virus. If we count our chickens before they hatch, there is a risk COVID-19 hell will break loose and we will face a dangerous situation” he added.
Likewise, Rodríguez affirmed that in the event any government official violates the preventive measures to fight the pandemic, the Attorney General’s Office and the courts will act accordingly.
