Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for the Ministry of Foreign Relations of the People’s Republic of China, stressed on Wednesday her government’s rejection of the recent US aggression against Venezuela and emphasized that Beijing opposes any US invasion plan in the South American allied country.
“China insists on supporting the efforts of the Venezuelan Government to maintain stability and improve the living conditions of the people. We oppose the interference of any external force in the internal affairs of Venezuela, under any pretext, above all, we firmly oppose any form of armed intervention”, said the spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
In the pronouncement, China reiterated its respect for the Charter of the United Nations (UN) and the basic norms that govern international relations.
The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, has denounced that the recent armed incursion by groups of mercenaries was organized from Colombia and the United States with the objective of destabilizing and creating the conditions to carry out a coup against his government.
Venezuela and China celebrated last year 45 years of the establishment of diplomatic relations, which have been deepened during the Bolivarian Revolution with the signing of a comprehensive cooperation agreement, covering the areas of education, energy, housing, technology, health and culture, among others.
