The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, repudiated “the morbidness” with which the media has dealt with the issue of the pandemic in Venezuela, because “they want blood in our country (…), the news agencies want to ignore that 80% or more of the cases that Venezuela has registered in 15 days come from Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador and Peru”.
In the last 24 hours, 34 new cases of people infected by the new Coronavirus (COVID-19) have been registered in Venezuela, of which two are by community transmission and 30 are imported, as a result of international contact, specifically with Colombia; for a total of 1,245 confirmed cases in Venezuelan territory.
These are compatriots who have contracted the disease in the neighboring country and “crossed the border fleeing from Colombia”, said the President, detailing that they have been detected by the Venezuelan health system, and therefore, “how we act sincerely” are accounted for Venezuela.
The countries that border Venezuela have exponential contagion curves, with Brazil being the second nation in the world with the highest number of affected, registering to date 399,632 positive cases and 25,035 deaths, while Colombia has 23,003 infected people and 776 victims due to the COVID-19.
In the midst of that context, around 50,000 Venezuelans have returned to their homeland searching for health care and the social protection that has been denied to them in the countries to which they migrated years ago.
In this sense, the Head of State criticized the position of the media that are silent in the face of this phenomenon that makes Venezuela the only country in the world, which in the midst of the pandemic, is receiving a wave of reverse migration.
“There is a group of ill-intentioned people, sick with hatred, revenge, colonialism and imperialism in mind and soul who want evil for Venezuela. You better know it, they will not do it! because Venezuela is blessed and protected by a correct health policy”, said the President during a productive work day held in Caracas.
