The number of cases of people infected with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) in Venezuelan territory amounts to 1,819.

This was reported by the Sector Vice-president for Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, in a balance that he offered this Tuesday on behalf of the Presidential Commission for the Attention of this new virus, in the midst of the controlled flexibilization process, with scheme 5×10 that is launched in the country.

In statements from the Miraflores Palace, Jorge Rodríguez specified that six cases respond to community transmission and 150 imported are reported on Tuesday.

Of these 150 cases, 9 were generated by contact with an international traveler (Colombia); 136 nationals from Colombia; 3 from Ecuador and 2 compatriots from Peru.

Of the 1,819 infections registered in the country so far, 334 correspond to people who have recovered; 977 are in sentinel hospitals; 475 are in Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers (CDI); 15 in private clinics and 18 deceased, with a fatality rate registered by Venezuela of less than 1 percent, said the Sector Vice-president.

Regarding the entry of Venezuelans through the border, -the Venezuelan official explained- 53 thousand 789 compatriots have entered the country.

Vice-president Rodríguez pointed out that to date 987,902 rapid tests have been applied in the country to screen for the disease, which places the South American nation as the country with the most tests applied in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Care in this flexibility

Minister Jorge Rodríguez urged the sectors that have joined the new stage of flexibility to continue complying with it with great care, respecting the use of the mask at all places and all established prevention measures.

He called for reflection on the danger posed by the worrying exponential curves presented by neighboring nations, in view of the fact that “we are surrounded by the epicenter of the pandemic, Brazil, Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia”, a reality before which the National Government has implemented the Comprehensive Social Care Points (Pasi), he stressed.
