The Secretary General of the United Nations (UN), António Guterres, celebrated this Wednesday the agreement reached by the Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and a sector of the political opposition in order to joint efforts to respond to the pandemic of COVID-19.
Faced with this support, the People’s Power Minister for Foreign Relations, Jorge Arreaza, shared on his Twitter account @jaarreaza:
“UN Secretary General António Guterres welcomes the agreement between the Bolivarian Government and the advisory team of the National Assembly to give a joint response to COVID-19. He recognizes the role of the Pan American Health Organization and calls to keep reaching agreements on this basis”.
The Foreign Minister also released a message published in the account of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, referring to the gratitude expressed by the Secretary General for the “agreement between the Government and the Advisory Team of the National Assembly to respond to COVID-19”.
Through a statement, the highest representative of the multilateral organization urged the parties of the agreement to apply it in accordance with the principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality and independence.
The UN Secretary General also recognized the important role played by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to facilitate this agreement.
The document was signed by the People’s Power Minister for Health, Carlos Alvarado; Dr. Julio Castro, the adviser to the Venezuelan opposition and Dr. Gerardo de Coscio, PAHO representative in Venezuela.
“Everything that can be done, everything that President Maduro and the Bolivarian Government can do to strengthen the fight against COVID-19, have no doubt that we will do it”, emphasized Tuesday the Sector Vice-president of Communication, Culture and Tourism, Jorge Rodríguez, when making public the signing of the agreement.
