Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D RAJA has issued the following statement today (on July 3, 2020):
The CPI congratulates the Coal Workers and their Trade Unions for their successful 2nd day strike against the decision taken by the Modi government in the name of Atmanirbhar Bharat to hand over Coal Mines to the private sectors, both Indian and foreign. The reports coming from all the Coal fields are that the strike is 100% success. It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister of the country himself has inaugurated the Coal Auction Process on the 18th of June 2020. The Coal Unions and the Central Trade Unions have been opposing the government policy of privatisation and 100% FDI in Coal Sector.
The CPI also congratulates the Central Trade Unions and independent Federations for successfully organizing a Nation Wide Protest Day on the 3rd of July 2020 against the various anti-labour decisions being implemented by the Modi Government. The Modi government has decided to either close down or privatise the Public Sector undertakings. The Finance Minister while announcing the so called COVID-19 economic relief have categorically stated that there will be only 4 PSUs in the strategic sectors and one PSU in the Non-strategic sector. Railways, Defence, Coal, ISRO, Atomic Energy, Banks, Insurance, Oil and all Public Sectors are under the process of privatization. Yesterday Railway Board issued an order that there will not be any recruitment in the Railways in future. All the Labour Laws are being tinkered in favour of the Private Corporates. The Central Trade Unions are demanding that at least Rs.7500 may be deposited as a relief measure to the Bank Account of all those people who are affected due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
The working people of the country are already very badly affected due to the uncontrollable price rise and the daily basis price increase for petrol and diesel. The working people of the country have today raised their voice against the Modi government and have given a clear message that the people of the country will not tolerate such atrocities against them.
CPI congratulates the working people of the country and extends all support and solidarity in all their struggles in protecting the public sector, railways, defence and the hard earned rights like labour laws etc., which they have achieved after a century old struggle.
