The President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen), received at his presidential headquarters in Ramallah, Friday evening, August 7, a delegation from the Democratic Front for Peace and Equality (Hadash) headed by MK Ayman Odeh, leader of the Joint List and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Israel, Adel Amer.

According to the Arabic-language communist daily Al-Ittihad, Abu Mazen briefed the delegation on the latest developments in the situation in the Palestinian territories, and the efforts made by the leadership to preserve Palestinian rights and prevent the implementation of Israel’s annexation plans which, if implemented, will destroy the entire political process. Abu Mazen emphasized his rejection of “dictates that try to undermine the rights of our people, and [his] adherence to international legitimacy as a basis for achieving peace and stability.”

During the meeting, MK Odeh stressed that Hadash continues to see the two-state solution as the correct path for the creation of a Palestinian state, and reaffirmed the Front’s support to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Odeh reiterated Hadash’s rejection of Israeli endeavors to annex large swaths of the occupied West Bank as well as any unilateral measures that undermine the prospects of peace

On Thursday, Abbas chaired a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) in Ramallah, in the central West Bank. The meeting discussed the latest political developments in the region, at the top of which was the “Palestinian struggle against Israel’s annexation plan and the US-led ‘Deal of the Century,’ which aim at liquidating the Palestinian cause, the national project, the Palestinian right to self-determination and statehood, and the right of return of the Palestinian refugees.”

During the meeting, President Abbas told the PLO Executive Committee that latest talks with Arab leaders, Russia, China, the EU countries, Indonesia, Turkey, Switzerland, South Africa, Norway, Britain, the African Union, the Non-Aligned Movement and other international parties, have paved the way for an international coalition against apartheid and illegal annexation. He said this coalition would live up to the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people to statehood and independence, as stipulated in UN General Assembly Resolution 194. Meanwhile, the PLO Executive Committee affirmed its commitment to the decisions announced by President Abbas on May 19, 2020 on ending all agreements and understandings between the PLO and the US administration and the Israeli occupation, respectively.

The Executive Committee stressed its full support for the Palestinian strategy of working to build an international coalition against annexation and against the Trump-Netanyahu plan, and reiterated its support for holding an international peace conference that ensures an end to the Israeli occupation and the achieving of Palestinian independence and statehood.
