The “Joint Declaration on Women’s Health and Family Strengthening”, which will be presented to the World Health Assembly, is a real declaration of war against women, against their rights, against the right to abortion. If the text speaks, for example, of “the same chances of access to employment as men”, it very clearly shows the will to restrict the right to abortion, under the pretext of “women’s well-being” and “preservation of human life” ; the group praises “traditional families”, i.e. heterosexual couples, and claims to “protect innocent lives”.
This symbolic statement shows the reactionary, antifeminist, patriarchal, internationally coordinated offensive. It takes place at a time when the right to abortion is being fought by several governments supporting the most retrograde forces. Religious circles on several sides play a significant role.
The member organisations of the International Labor Network Solidarity and Struggle denounce this reactionary declaration, but also the obstacles to the right of every woman to freely dispose of her body, which exist well beyond these 32 countries. Women’s right to control their bodies is a fundamental right. It is a structuring element in the construction of equality between women and men. Abortion is a public health problem ; it is even more so in poor countries.
The member organisations of the International Labor Network of Solidarity and Struggles demand the right to a free, safe, public and free abortion for all women, including minors. Around the world, we support feminist struggles.
