The Trade Union Union of Kanak and Exploited Workers (USTKE) calls for a day of general strike in Kanaky on Friday, 30 October. This is linked to the situation at the South Vale NC plant, which is threatened with closure on 31 December by the decision of the current parent company Vale Rio (Brazil). This closure would have important consequences for employment, the environment and the economy of the country.
Capitalism and colonialism make a mockery of the future of Kanaky and the local population. With this strike, USTKE wants to impose a choice for the future of Kanaky. The member organisations of the International Labor Network of Solidarity and Struggle support the call for a strike.
Extending our anti-colonialist commitment, our role is to inform about the colonial reality, to be in solidarity against repression, and to support those who are fighting for their independence. The Kanak people’s right to self-determination is inalienable.
