We sympathize with people whose homes have been destroyed and property destroyed. As a party that believes that solidarity is a fundamental value of society and a guarantor of its stability, we call for solidarity with the people of this region, which is one of the poorest in Croatia, suffered in the war of the 1990s and remained forgotten after the war.”
Τhe Socialist Workers’ Party of Croatia calls those who are interested to donate through the Solidarna Foundation, pointing out that “in the most difficult times we see clearly the strength of humanity of solidarity”.
In a statement, the Belgrade-based New Communist Party of Yugoslavia (NKPJ) and the League of Communist Youth of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) express their sincere condolences to the families of those killed in the devastating earthquake that hit central Croatia.
They point out that the material damage is very important, but “is nothing compared to the lost of human lives among which, unfortunately, a twelve-year-old girl from Petrinja, as well as a 20-year-old boy.”
The statement continues: “The earthquake was felt throughout the region and material damage was recorded outside Croatia. And this situation has proven how much the people in our area are connected with each other, how much our destiny is connected and intertwined. In the face of natural disasters, we are all equally powerless, and the greatest consolation and security can only be found in the unity and solidarity of the people. Therefore, we show solidarity with all those who were left without loved ones, we want a quick recovery of the injured, as well as a quick recovery of material damage.”
The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) also expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and its solidarity with the people of Croatia.
