Yesterday, January 9, RefuseFascism.org held rallies across the country demanding TRUMP OUT NOW! and calling on people to act now in mass, non-violent protest and end four years of accommodation to fascism that enabled Wednesday’s fascist coup attempt.
In Washington, DC a press conference was held in Black Lives Matter Plaza, near the site of a racist MAGA assault on the historically Black Metropolitan A.M.E. Church, whose “Black Lives Matter” banner was torn down and burned by Proud Boys.
The Church’s Pastor, Reverend William H. Lamar IV, spoke to the media:
We need to… get Donald Trump and Mike Pence out of office immediately. It is not enough for us to turn a blind eye and say he will be gone in 11 days. God created the world in 7 days in our tradition, and Mr. Trump can destroy it in fewer than 7 days. …[N]ot punishing him, and not punishing the fascist white supremacist hordes, will be second romanticization of white supremacy. The first was the lost cause of the Civil War. The North may have won the war, but the South won the culture. With the cult of the Lost Cause, they were not punished, so they were able to romanticize the story. We cannot allow this story to be romanticized. The President and all of his enablers must be prosecuted and history must record them as criminals, such as to deter this kind of action in the future.
“We gotta drive Trump out now. We can’t wait 11 days,” said @JamNoPeanut. “Every day that he stays in office is a horror for humanity.”

Protest actions were also held in Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston, Cleveland, Honolulu, Houston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Andy Zee, co-initiator of RefuseFascism.org and host of The Revolution Nothing Less Show on YouTube, summed up:
The Trump/Pence regime must be thoroughly repudiated. Those who counsel that impeachment will further divide the country fail to face the reality that the country is already profoundly divided. Appeasing this neo-confederate fascist movement – a movement that is still in congress as well as the streets – is what led to the deadly and failed coup attempt led by Trump. History shows that a failed coup that is not thoroughly repudiated down the road can lead to a successful coup or a “legitimate” return to power fueled by vengeance. It is only the action of the millions of people who desire a just world taking to the streets in non-violent protest that can compel those in power to be resolute and remove Trump from power now.
