WFTU solidarity statement with health and medical workers in Republic of Korea

The World Federation of Trade Union, the oldest and only class-oriented international trade union organization that represent 105 million workers in 130 countries joins its voice with the health and medical workers in the Republic of Korea who protest against the understaffing and underfunding of the country hospitals, even a whole year since the onset of a pandemic.

Notwithstanding the increased needs in hospital facilities and equipment and despite the heavy workload resulting in the burnout of the nursing staff, the government and local authorities of the country are still neglecting the healthcare system.

The international class-oriented trade union strongly demand the immediate allocation of the necessary funds by the government for the strengthening of the Public Healthcare Sector in facilities, medical and paramedical staff. The healthcare is not a privilege, is a  non-negotiable right of the popular strata.  We call upon the working class of the Republic of Korea to support the demands of health and medical workers and continue the struggle for free, public, full and universal healthcare so that all people have access adequate health coverage.
