THE ROLE OF BLOCKADE IN THE US POLICY AGAINST CUBA The economic, commercial and financial blockade has been for more than 60 years and continues to be the central component of the US policy towards Cuba. It has been the most persistent weapon and the central axis of hostility and aggression of the US towards our country since the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959. The blockade is an expression of the historical inability of the US government to recognize that Cuba is an independent and sovereign country that decided to build a socialist system. It is a fact that the blockade against Cuba is the most comprehensive, prolonged and severe system of unilateral sanctions and coercive measures ever applied against any country in the history.
