Solidarity to USB and the struggle of Alitalia employees

PAME Greece

Thousands of Alitalia workers rallied at Rome’s Fiumicino Airport on Saturday September 25th to protest during a general air transport strike. The mobilization is against the Government’s decision that does not effectively secure the jobs of the majority of Alitalia employees who are lead to unemployment when the new company starts operating on October 15. Alitalia workers, with the support of unions and workers of many sectors, demonstrated at the airport and marched on the highway against the police who tried to block the mobilization. PAME is on the side of USB and Alitalia employees, in their fair fight for jobs, against dismissals. The experience from the privatization of OLYMPIC Airways in Greece and the continuous support packages to the private Air Transport companies shows that the EU and Governments aim to support the profits of business groups, the costs of which the people are called to pay. PAME supports the fair demands of Alitalia employees to secure all jobs, protect contracts and employee rights, and payment of their wages.
