Global Union Federations demand release of Rong Chhun and other trade unionists in Cambodia

Global Union Federations with affiliates across Asia Pacific region strongly condemn the arrest of Rong Chhun, President Cambodian Confederation of Unions and calls upon the Royal Government of Cambodia to drop the charges and immediately release him. Rong Chhun, one of the most outspoken trade union leaders in Cambodia and former President of the Cambodian Independent Teachers Association, has always been at the forefront of the fight to protect workers rights.

ETUC and ITUC welcome lifting of EU trade benefits to Cambodia 

The government has continued to file charges against trade union leaders, and organising or joining a union in garment factories and other sectors is becoming increasingly difficult and dangerous. Anti-union discrimination is rampant.  With Cambodia being a major beneficiary under the EBA, the partial withdrawal is a test for Europe’s trade policy and its impact on human rights. The ETUC and ITUC welcome the EU decision to withdraw Cambodia’s trade preferences.
