Communists condemn Morocco’s breach of ceasefire in Western Sahara

The Communist Party of Canada and the Young Communist League of Canada denounce Morocco’s recent violations of the 1988 ceasefire between the Moroccan army and the Polisario Front, the legitimate representative of the Sahrawi people. On November 13, the Moroccan army breached a roadblock in Guerguerat, in southwestern Western Sahara, that Sahrawi civilians had erected on October 20. The roadblock was to prevent Morocco from transporting fishery and agricultural products from the occupied Western Saharan territories to the Mauritanian port of Nouadhibou.

The Communist Party of Canada denounces the planned closure of GM Oshawa car plant. The Communist Party of Canada recently released a statement against the planned closure of General Motors Oshawa car plant, calling it “a war on Canadian autoworkers and on automobile manufacturing in Canada.” The statement also highlighted how using the NAFTA 2.0 agreement the major transnational auto manufacturers are “shifting the plants south to Mexico, where wages are $4 an hour or less – a fraction of what workers in Canada are paid.”

Communists condemn Minister Freeland’s violations of sovereignty of Venezuela

The Communist Party of Canada condemns the latest flagrant violation of the national sovereignty of Venezuela by Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland. Going far beyond the bounds of diplomacy, Minister Freeland attacked the July 30 voting to elect a Constituent Assembly which will have powers to resolve the political crisis in Venezuela. The Liberal government’s claim that the election was “contrary to Venezuela’s Constitution”, and therefore illegitimate, is a lie. Article 347 and 348 of the Bolivarian Constitution outline the president’s right to initiate a National Constituent Assembly.
